Cooperative Innovative Early College High School

Wake Young Men’s Leadership Academy (WYMLA) offers students in grades 6-13 a rigorous program that focuses on graduating college and career ready students in a College Transfer Pathway area of study.

Leadership

We instill the five practices of exemplary leadership, as outlined in The Leadership Challenge by Kouzes & Posner.

Early College

Students take both high school and college courses as part of their daily schedule. College courses are tuition-free and course credits count on their high school and college transcripts.

Early College Program

Juniors and Seniors experience the collegiate environment at Shaw University. Our students typically earn 9-15 credit hours per semester.

Many teachers hold advanced degrees or National Board Certification, enriching instruction across all programs.

The WYMLA Graduate

For over the last 5 years, WYMLA has had a 100% Graduation rate. Our students not only graduate with a high school diploma, but also an average of 40-50 college credit hours.

Service

Students are expected to perform community service hours each year. The amount required increases by grade level.

Uniforms

Mon, Tues, Thur, Fri - Students wear school polo, khakis, and dark dress shoes/socks.

Well Dressed Wednesdays - Students wear an Oxford, button-down, white, short or long sleeved shirt with school logo and their appropriate middle school or high school colored tie.

Field Trips

At WYMLA, field trips are more than outings; they are intentional learning experiences designed to develop the whole student.

Global Travel Experiences

Typically each year students have the option to travel abroad with one of our teachers through EF Tours.

Recent locations students have traveled to include: 
Spain/Portugal
Japan
Costa Rica
Thailand

Schedules

MS is on an A/B schedule. 

HS is on a block schedule.

MS students receive 80 minutes of math every day.
